Literature Text

lips shiny and red,
cheeks swollen with loathing
for that which feeds her deepest fear,
she sways on the scale and
confirms what they all deny.

she papers her bedroom walls
with reminders of her failure,
remnants of her weakness,
entrails of the unachievable end.

she only shows her bones
to smudgy artists drugged
with the beauty of her annihilation.
if you didn't get it (which i very much hope you did) this one is about a bulimic girl that just binged.
this wasn't on purpose, but i enjoy the fact that the stanzas are each shorter by one line.

at first i didn't really like this, but after it was placed in the litmag with literally NO edits (which never EVER happens, to like anyone), i decided that maybe it's not bad. :]

thoughts?

I found "feeds her deepest fear" to be a kind of irony - someone starving to death by her own, albeit ineffable, free will being sustained only by her fears.
We can safely assume that someone who "sways on the scale" can feel ostracized by the world, and finds confirmation of her existence only in her depleting weight, yet remains denied for never being perfect enough.

I took notice of each stanza losing a line, just like the protagonist could be losing her weight, health, and mind.
I'm unsure about the "smudgy artists". I'm sure they're people who perpetuate her problem, but are they photographers/fashion designers or are they celebrities?

Naturally, beauty is intrinsic to femininity. Unfortunately our world has perverted it.
